Why September is the month to renew and reward

September is traditionally a common month for businesses to renew their energy contracts.

It also follows hot on the heels of the ‘back to school’ season that can prompt employees to review their own job situation and perhaps focus on new career opportunities.

Allow more time to fix the best price

I probably don’t need to tell you the energy market can be volatile – with ongoing political uncertainties and Brexit, weather, supply, regulatory and other factors causing prices to increase or decrease in relatively short periods.

Avoid the default trap

What’s more, now that the industry is no longer allowed to roll customers onto new contracts automatically, if you don’t renew in time, you’ll instead be transferred onto what’s called non-contracted ‘default’ rates.

Default rates tend to be higher than agreed contract rates, because they cover no set time period or volume (and you are free to leave at any time).

As a result, we cannot buy energy as cost effectively, as we cannot predict how much is needed or for how long.
